Pause. Prevent. Protect.

Campaign calls on you to protect patients’ information

Pause. Prevent. Protect.

The Pause. Prevent. Protect. information security campaign focuses on the need for team members to protect our patients’ information. The campaign highlights are simple: Only access a patient record if you have a job purpose to do so, log out of the computer when you walk away, don’t share your passwords with others for any reason, and create strong passwords that can’t be hacked.

“There are some pretty simple, straightforward reasons for why this is such an important program,” said Steve Speelman, NH UVA Health System Culpeper Medical Center administrative director of IT and IT security officer. “It’s the right thing to do for our patients, and it’s everyone’s responsibility as healthcare workers.”

In coming weeks, a poster will be distributed and displayed as a reminder for team members to keep an eye out for malicious cyber-security attacks. Please display them in common areas and use them to continue the dialogue about the importance of practicing with a questioning attitude to protect our patients’ healthcare information, and the systems we use to deliver care.

“Security starts with each and every employee and these posters are a reminder of that,” Speelman said. “If you see anything that doesn’t look right, you are expected to speak up.
